How does the Image Cropper work?
Upload any image and use the interactive crop workspace to visually select the area you want to keep. Drag the crop handles to resize, drag the center to reposition, and use the toolbar to rotate, flip, or choose from preset aspect ratios. All processing happens entirely in your browser — your images never leave your device.
What image formats are supported?
You can upload JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, BMP, and GIF images. Output formats include JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and AVIF. You can also keep the original format. GIF files will use the first frame only.
What aspect ratio presets are available?
We provide Free (no constraint), standard ratios (1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16, 5:4), and social media presets for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, and WhatsApp. You can also enter custom dimensions.
Can I rotate and flip my images?
Yes! Use the rotate buttons to rotate 90° clockwise or counter-clockwise. Use the flip buttons to mirror the image horizontally or vertically. These transformations are applied in real-time preview and included in the final export.
What quality settings are available?
Choose from preset quality levels (100%, 92%, 85%, 80%, 70%, 60%) or use the custom slider for precise control. Higher quality means larger file sizes. For JPEG and WEBP, quality affects compression. PNG is always lossless.
Is my image secure?
Absolutely. All image processing happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files are never uploaded to any server. Once you close the page, all data is cleared from memory. This makes the tool safe for confidential or sensitive images.
What is the maximum file size?
The tool supports images up to 100 MB in size. For very large images, the initial loading may take a moment depending on your device. The interactive crop preview is optimized to remain smooth even for high-resolution images.
Can I crop a circle shape?
Yes! Select the Circle Crop option in the crop settings. The preview will show a circular crop area, and the exported image will have a transparent background outside the circle (when using PNG or WEBP output).
Can I undo my changes?
Yes. The crop workspace supports full undo/redo (⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z). Each adjustment to the crop area, rotation, or flip is saved as a history entry, so you can freely experiment and revert if needed.
Does cropping affect image quality?
Cropping itself is a lossless operation — it simply removes pixels outside the crop area. The quality of the remaining pixels is preserved. However, if you choose a lossy output format (JPEG, WEBP, AVIF) with reduced quality settings, that compression is applied during export.

What is Image Cropping?

Cropping is the process of removing unwanted outer areas from an image. It improves composition by focusing on the subject, removing distractions, and adjusting the aspect ratio for specific use cases like social media profiles or print layouts.

Aspect Ratios Explained

An aspect ratio describes the proportional relationship between width and height (e.g., 16:9 means 16 units wide for every 9 units tall). Different platforms require specific aspect ratios — Instagram squares use 1:1, YouTube thumbnails use 16:9, and Pinterest pins use 2:3.

Cropping vs Resizing

Cropping removes pixels to change the composition or aspect ratio while keeping the remaining pixels at their original resolution. Resizing changes the overall dimensions by scaling all pixels up or down. Cropping is lossless for the kept area; resizing may affect sharpness.

Best Practices for Cropping

Use the rule of thirds grid to align key elements along intersection points. Keep the subject's eyes in the upper third for portraits. Leave breathing room around the subject. For social media, always check the platform's recommended dimensions before exporting.
