How does browser-based image resizing work?
Our image resizer uses the Canvas API built into modern browsers. When you upload an image, we draw it onto a hidden canvas element at your specified dimensions and export the result. This process is mathematically precise — every pixel is calculated using high-quality image interpolation. Every byte stays on your device — nothing is uploaded to any server.
What image formats are supported?
You can upload JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, BMP, GIF, TIFF, and ICO images. Output formats include the same as the input or you can optionally convert to JPG, PNG, WEBP, or AVIF.
What resize methods are available?
We offer six resize methods: Width & Height (exact dimensions), Percentage (scale by percentage), Longest Edge (set the longest side), Shortest Edge (set the shortest side), Fit Inside Box (fit within bounds), and Fill Canvas (fill bounds with cropping). Each method gives you precise control over the output dimensions.
Will resizing reduce image quality?
Resizing down (making an image smaller) typically preserves visual quality well. Resizing up (making an image larger) can result in blurriness because we're creating new pixels from existing ones. We use high-quality canvas interpolation for the best results. Enable the 'Sharpen After Resize' option to enhance clarity when upscaling.
What are the social media presets?
Our presets include optimized dimensions for Instagram posts and stories, Facebook covers and posts, LinkedIn banners, YouTube thumbnails and banners, Twitter posts and headers, Pinterest pins, WhatsApp and Telegram profile pictures, and more. Each preset uses the officially recommended dimensions for the best display quality.
Can I resize multiple images at once?
Yes! Upload multiple images and our batch processor will resize them all with consistent settings. You can monitor per-file and overall progress, then download results individually or as a single ZIP archive. Up to 100 images per batch.
What does the 'Fit Inside Box' method do?
Fit Inside Box scales your image to fit within a bounding box while maintaining the original aspect ratio. If your image is wider than tall, it will fit to the width; if taller, it will fit to the height. The result never exceeds the box dimensions, and no cropping occurs.
How does 'Fill Canvas' differ from 'Fit Inside Box'?
Fill Canvas scales your image to completely fill the specified canvas dimensions. Unlike Fit Inside Box, parts of the image may be cropped if the aspect ratio doesn't match. The image will always cover the entire canvas area. You can set a background color for areas that can't be filled.
Can I change the DPI of my images?
Yes! You can set the DPI (dots per inch) to 72, 96, 150, or 300. This affects the metadata stored in the image, which is useful for print preparation. Note that DPI metadata doesn't change the pixel dimensions — it only tells the printer how many pixels to use per inch.
Is my privacy protected?
Absolutely. All image resizing happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files are never uploaded, copied, or transmitted to any server. No third-party services, no analytics tracking the content of your images, no data leaving your device.

Understanding Image Dimensions

Image dimensions are measured in pixels (width × height). Resizing changes these dimensions, affecting the image's physical size and file size. Reducing dimensions creates smaller files, while increasing dimensions (upscaling) can introduce blurriness. Always resize to the exact dimensions needed for your use case.

Aspect Ratio Explained

Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between width and height (e.g., 16:9, 4:3, 1:1). Maintaining the aspect ratio when resizing prevents distortion. When you see black bars or cropping, it's because the target dimensions don't match the original aspect ratio.

When to Use Each Resize Method

Width & Height is best when you need exact pixel dimensions. Percentage is ideal for quick scaling. Longest/Shortest Edge is perfect for ensuring images meet specific size limits. Fit Inside Box is great for thumbnails. Fill Canvas works best for banners and covers where complete coverage matters.

Resizing for Social Media vs Print

Social media images are optimized for screen display at 72 DPI with smaller file sizes. Print images require higher resolution (at least 150-300 DPI) and larger dimensions. Always size up for print — the DPI setting tells the printer how densely to place pixels on paper.
