Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about GST calculations

How do I calculate GST on a price?
There are two common ways. GST exclusive: multiply the base price by the rate (e.g. ₹10,000 × 18% = ₹1,800 GST, total ₹11,800). GST inclusive: extract tax from the final bill using the formula price × rate ÷ (100 + rate) — e.g. ₹11,800 × 18 ÷ 118 = ₹1,800 GST, so the taxable value was ₹10,000. Our calculator does both instantly.
What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?
CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) apply to supplies within the same state — the total GST is split equally between them. IGST (Integrated GST) applies to supplies between different states, and the full GST is collected as IGST. Our calculator auto-detects this from your intra-state / inter-state selection.
What are the standard GST rates in India?
The common slabs are 0%, 3%, 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Essentials and unprocessed food are often 0% or 5%, most services and common goods fall under 12% or 18%, and luxury or sin goods (aerated drinks, tobacco, some vehicles) sit at 28% with additional cess.
What is reverse GST calculation?
Reverse GST (also called reverse charge calculation) finds the original taxable value from a final price that already includes tax. For example, a ₹11,800 invoice at 18% GST had a taxable value of ₹10,000. Use the Reverse mode when you only know the final selling price.
What are HSN and SAC codes?
HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) codes classify goods and SAC (Service Accounting Codes) classify services — both must appear on GST invoices. The first two digits of an HSN identify the chapter (e.g. 84 = machinery), and each code maps to a typical GST slab. Use the HSN/SAC lookup mode to search by code or keyword, see the indicative rate, and apply it straight to your calculation.
How is round-off handled on invoices?
Many businesses round the final invoice total to the nearest rupee. When you enable round-off, we show the unrounded grand total, the round-off adjustment (e.g. +₹0.50 or −₹0.25), and the rounded amount your customer actually pays.
Is my financial data stored or uploaded?
No. Every calculation happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your amounts, rates and invoices are never uploaded, stored on a server, or shared. Recent inputs are saved only to your own device's local storage so you can pick up where you left off.

Tool Overview

A closer look at GST Calculator — how it works, who it's for, and where it fits in your workflow.

GST appears in almost every Indian transaction, but it's easy to get the math wrong: is GST included in that MRP or added on top? The GST Calculator handles every everyday scenario — add GST to a base price (exclusive mode), extract GST from a final bill (inclusive mode), or reverse-calculate the taxable value when you only know the selling price. Whatever you're computing, the tool returns the base amount, GST amount, and final total in one view.

For invoices, the calculator acts like a mini billing studio. Build a multi-line invoice with per-item GST rates, add discounts and shipping, apply round-off, and the tool produces an invoice-style breakdown with automatic CGST + SGST splitting for intra-state supplies and IGST for inter-state ones. The donut chart and smart insights make the tax composition visible at a glance, and PDF/CSV export plus print support mean you can produce a clean, shareable statement without a spreadsheet.

Financial documents are sensitive, so every calculation runs locally in your browser. Nothing you compute — prices, rates, invoice details — is uploaded anywhere, and there's no account to create.
