Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about building an ATS-friendly resume with the Resume Builder

Is this resume builder ATS-friendly?
Yes. Every template uses a single-column layout with standard fonts (Helvetica or Times), simple section headings, and no tables, text boxes, images, or graphics that confuse applicant tracking systems. A resume that parses cleanly in an ATS is far more likely to reach a human recruiter, which is why all three templates are built to the same parsing-safe rules.
Do you store my resume data?
No. Everything happens in your browser — your name, photo, experience, and the finished PDF are never uploaded to any server. The only storage is an optional local draft saved to your browser's localStorage so a page refresh doesn't lose your work, and that draft stays on your device.
Can I use this for a CV instead of a resume?
Absolutely. A CV is simply a longer, more detailed version of a resume. The builder supports as many experience and education entries, projects, publications-style certifications, and awards as you need, and the section reordering controls let you arrange a multi-page academic CV however you like.
What file formats can I export?
Two formats: a clean A4 PDF generated entirely in your browser with pdf-lib (the same engine as the rest of the ForgePlug PDF suite), and a plain-text version that is perfect for pasting into online application forms, Workday-style portals, and job board uploads that only accept text.
Can I add my own photo?
Yes. Upload a PNG or JPG photo and it renders in the live preview and the exported PDF. The image is converted in your browser and kept only in memory (and in your local draft if you save one) — it is never sent anywhere. You can remove it at any time.
Do I need to create an account?
No account, no signup, and no paywall. Open the page and start typing — the tool works entirely in your browser, saves a local draft automatically, and exports as many PDFs as you need for free, forever.
Can I reorder sections, like putting education first?
Yes. The Section Order panel gives every section (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills, and the optional ones) up/down controls so you can prioritize what matters for the role — students and career-changers often lead with education or skills, while experienced professionals lead with work history.

Tool Overview

A closer look at Resume Builder — how it works, who it's for, and where it fits in your workflow.

Your resume has one job: to survive the applicant tracking system (ATS) that screens it, and then make a recruiter want to meet you. The Resume Builder is built around both goals. It creates clean, single-column, ATS-friendly resumes and CVs entirely in your browser — no account, no uploads, no paywall — so you can apply with confidence even when a job board sends your document through an automated parser first.

The editor walks you through everything a strong resume needs: personal details with an optional photo, a summary or objective with guidance as you write, work experience with achievement bullets, education with GPA and honors, and tag-style skills grouped by category. Optional sections cover certifications, projects, awards, volunteer work, and languages, and the section reordering controls let students and career-changers lead with education or skills while experienced professionals lead with experience.

What makes this different from a generic document editor is that the layout is designed for the machines and the humans who read your resume. All three templates — Minimal, Modern, and Classic — are single-column with standard fonts and plain headings, which is exactly what ATS parsers handle best. A live preview renders beside the editor and updates as you type, and the PDF download matches it pixel-for-pixel, so what you see is what the recruiter gets.

Privacy matters here more than almost anywhere else online: a resume is your name, address, phone number, work history, and sometimes your photo. Many so-called 'free' resume sites quietly collect that data or push you behind a paywall to download your own file. This tool does the opposite — every keystroke stays in your browser, drafts auto-save to your own device, and the PDF is generated locally on your machine. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is stored on any server.
